Whose Teeing Off

We do have a few bigger names teeing off here, I would expect next weeks turnout to be worse with the Fourth of July weekend and the British Open looming on the schedule.

However we do have Dustin Johnson, U.S. Open Champion Gary Woodland, Rickie Fowler, Kevin Kisner, Hideki Matsuyama, and Bubba Watson all teeing it up here. Let’s take a look at some notable tee times for Thursday and Friday.

Thursday Hole #1/Friday Hole #10

  • 12:55 PM/7:25 AM: Gary Woodland, Keith Mitchell, Brandt Snedeker
  • 1:05 PM/7:35 AM: Chez Reavie, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed

Thursday Hole #10/Friday Hole #1

  • 7:25 AM/12:55 PM: Bubba Watson, Billy Horschel, Hideki Matsuyama
  • 7:35 AM/1:05 PM: Kevin Kisner, Rickie Fowler, Charles Howell III

The Course

The boys are specifically playing on the North Course at Detroit Golf Club which is a Donald Ross design from 1914, and was notably redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1953. Obviously since then there have been other tweaks to this 7,300 yard Par 72 course. This course features some narrow fairways with some thick rough. There are bunkers but not a copious amount of them, but water is featured on just one water here. Let’s take a look at some notable holes and a course flyover after.

Hole #4: 635 Yard Par 5

This is the longest hole on the course that few guys will be able to reach in two. With a great tee a bomber here like Dustin Johnson or Gary Woodland might be able to get here in two. Like many holes there are fairway bunkers spaced far apart all the way down the left side of the fairway up to the green. The green here is contoured so even if a guy wants to take a shot in two, he’ll need to get a lucky roll to stay on the green.

Hole #8: 372 Yard Par 4

A short Par 4 here that guys could go for off the tee depending on where they setup the tees each day. This two-tiered green could make that shot difficult though. The green is also protected by three different bunkers, including two on the left side where the green slopes too.

Hole #14: 555 Yard Par 5

The only hole here that features water, which is located up by a green that as a false front which slopes down towards the water. Many guys will go for the green in two but till have to avoid two green side bunkers, and the water on the left.

One & Done Pick: With no course history, and what seems like an easier course to play for tour players its hard to choose who to pick. But fuck it, we’ll say Gary Woodland keeps his great year going and gets the win here.

Betting Winner: Gary Woodland (+1400), Bubba Watson (+4000), Billy Horschel (+3300),
