The last time I went on the blog to write about my beloved Cubs they looked to be a team with no life and horrible pitching. Now, they’re a team that has a lot of life (and offense), starting pitching, and are winning games!
I don’t think anyone could have seem them shoot back up the standings as fast as they did after their horrible start, but the team is really clicking now. Bryant and Rizzo appear to be done with their slow starts which only improves an offense that was scoring a boat load of runs without their help. They’re leading the NL in runs per game and show no signs of slowing down.
The biggest help for this team to break out has been the performance of the starting rotation (minus Darvish). Hamels, Quintana, Hendricks, and Lester have been really solid helping this team break out of the rut. Since their road trip to start the season, they have won every series they have played, except for a split with the Angles due to a rain-out. That’ll work!
The Cubs brought Addison Russell back up. To me, he isn’t worth the headache. He’s a good player but nothing special and the distraction he may bring is not worth it to a club that is hot right now. We’ll just have to see how it plays out.
A road trip this week in Cincinnati followed by the Nats this weekend and a 3rd week in a row on Sunday Night Baseball. Time to keep the series winning streak alive!
