The Bucks have completed the gentleman’s sweep of the Celtics last night by defeating them 116-91 in Game 5, and overall just destroying the Celtics after losing Game 1 to them at home.
Let’s go back to late April shall we? The Bucks and Celtics meet in Game 1 in Milwaukee after both swept their first round opponents. The Celtics looked like the team everyone thought they would be – Gordon Hayward was playing better, Kyrie played well, and Jayson Tatum played great against the Pacers. I would say that the majority of basketball fans and experts were picking the Celtics in 6 or 7 games. They may not have the best player in the series, but they were a much deeper team. The Bucks were just Giannis, another All-Star in Khris Middleton, but after that it was just role players. The Celtics had Kyrie, Hayward, Tatum, Jaylon Brown, and the old dependable Al Horford. The Celtics were just more talented. And after game 1, a 112-90 win for the Celtics – it confirmed what all those losers thought.
First, Ryan Hollins might be the dumbest person in sports. It’s hilarious that a guy holds a grudge because Giannis blocked the shit out of him a few years ago.
Secondly, Paul Pierce go find another wheel chair to sit in you homer.
The Bucks were never going to play Game 1 bad again. They had no answers on offense, Giannis couldn’t get to the rim, and they’re defense was even worse. They easily played their worst game of the year, and they weren’t going to do that again. The Bucks only lost back to back games once the whole year, the Celtics were only the third team all year to beat the Bucks twice. One of those teams was the Thunder in the last game of the year, so I wouldn’t put much weight into that win. The Bucks also DOMINATED teams coming off of loses. No way they would play that bad again, and they didn’t.
Did I think we’d see this type of dominance? Nope but I loved it. After Game 1 the Celtics had zero answers for Giannis and the Bucks, especially in the second half of every game. In Game 4 the Bucks went on a huge run in third quarter with Middleton and Giannis on the bench with four fouls each. The Celtics were awful, mostly because the Bucks were so good on both ends of the court.
So now we wait for the Toronto Raptors and Philadelphia 76ers series to conclude. Whomever wins the Bucks are going to be BIG favorites to get to the NBA Finals, as they should be. The Bucks won the season series against both teams and they are just plain old better than both teams. For now, it would be nice for the 76ers to pull out the victory tonight and force a Game 7 which would give the Bucks some more rest. However, I think we’ll see the Raptors close out the series and get Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday.
Fear the Deer.
