AAF Recap and Week 2

The team who wins this thing, will be the team with the most competent QB play throughout the year.  I mean Christian Hackenberg is fucking awful.  That was embarrassing to watch, how long till he gets benched?

So the AAF kicked off last weekend and it was well, interesting.  There was no doubt a thirst for football form America.  The games on Saturday night outperformed ABC Saturday Night Basketball that really has the same like 5 or 6 teams just playing each other over and over again. Seriously, the schedule is all Lakers, Warriors, Rockets, Celtics, Thunder, and 76ers in one big circle jerk. Where’s my Milwaukee Bucks?

So the real question is if it will last.  Well the QB and offensive line were pretty terrible this weekend, but lets not forget that is what it’s supposed to be.  This isn’t backups or even practice squad guys playing, these are guys who can’t make an NFL team so the play is going to be poor, especially at QB.  So if you’re a person who complained about how bad the QBs are, they’re going to bad pretty much all year.  The team who wins this thing, will be the team with the most competent QB play throughout the year.  I mean Christian Hackenberg is fucking awful.  That was embarrassing to watch, how long till he gets benched?

We’ll see how the ratings go week two and if the AAF can keep it up.  What also hurt it this weekend was the domination by the winning teams.  The only entertaining “close” game was the Arizona Hotshots and Salt Lake Stallions because both teams actually played some offense.  Although the San Antonio Commanders beat the San Diego Fleet 15-6, I don’t think that was the most entertaining game. I also think that is key here, the rules for this league should setup well for offenses to dominate, but that there were two teams that only scored 6 points and one team was shutout which speaks to the poor QB and OL play.  I think that’ll get a little bit better as the season moves on.

The other thing that needs to get fixed has nothing to do with what’s going on down on the field but what is happening up in the booth.  Some of the announcing was atrocious.  There were some play by play guys that didn’t even know the names of players out there.  I understand its minor league football basically but if you’re going to announce these games, I hope you put some effort into knowing the teams. Marvin Lewis particularly in the Arizona/Salt Lake game sounded like he was trying to be the human form of NyQuil.

So first of all, if you missed the highlights here the game recap videos to take a look.  Make sure to watch the Commanders/Fleet one where the Fleet QB gets lit the FUCK up.  Gooddell would have put that defender in jail.
