So the Pro Bowl sucks. It’s boring, I don’t know how many of the guys actually enjoy playing it other than getting to play positions they usually never do. I don’t know why this is held in Orlando, it needs to always be in Hawaii and moved back there ASAP.
So what else is the fix for this? I think they need to get rid of this game all together. The Pro Bowl should be more of a skills showcase then anything. I don’t think any of these guys want to get hurt out there and the quality of popularity of the game suffers from this.
Apart of me thinks they should somehow combine the Pro Bowl and Senior Bowl into one big weekend out in Hawaii. Let the nation watch the next crop on young talent on the Sunday before the Super Bowl by getting coached by the guys invited to the Pro Bowl. Create better skill competitions that last the weekend, incorporate the seniors and pro’s maybe competing against each-other. I don’t think the Pro Bowl will ever be a popular sporting event again. But first, you need to move this back to Hawaii.
I blogged about this on Saturday Night while housing Busch Lights but the big story of this weekend was the shit visuals Syracuse and Virginia Tech gave us. It looked like a lactose intolerant 5 year old chugged a gallon of mile, ate two packs of Starburst, and then shit his pants the rest of the night. Just look at the picture below and tell me it’s not disgusting.
The other big game this weekend was Kansas @ Kentucky. Kentucky came out on top of that game 71-63. Kentucky, a team that wasn’t looking as good as many thought at the start of the year is starting too look more like a top 5 teams now. Their earlier season loses to Duke and Seton Hall are behind them and they have now beaten teams like Kansas, UNC, and Louisville. Kentucky only has one loss in what is a strong SEC this year and still has both games against #1 Tennessee coming up.
Kansas on the other hand, is now 1-4 on the road this year. That is downright awful for their program. They lost by 8 here, got beat by 1 in West Virginia, they got stomped by 17 in Iowa State, and lost by 4 in Arizona State. This is not the Kansas teams of previous year, they might even lose the Big 12 this year for the first time since 2004. Not a good look for Bill Self but maybe them going into the tournament as a 3 or 4 seed will ease the heartbreak they’ll undoubtedly put their fan base through in March.
Over at the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego the world #1 Justin Rose won by two strokes at -21 over Adam Scott in a stacked field. Rose started off strong in day 1 and didn’t let up all weekend. Even though he won by only two strokes, it never really felt like he was going to lose this tournament on Sunday. Adam Scott played very well as did Matsuayama. Jon Rahm finished T5 at -14 along with Jason Day and Rory McIlroy but he was -10 after round 1. Disappointing weekend for Rahm after a very strong opening round.
Tiger finished at T20 with a -10. He was never in contention and the last push was because of the 67 he carded on Sunday. He was -5 through the first three days then had a very nice Sunday to finish strong.
Some of these guys will be making the trip to Scottsdale, AZ for the Waste Management Phoenix Open next weekend. The rest will be taking the week off before the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in two weeks.
Be on the lookout for my first tournament preview dropping Wednesday night for the WMO that features all the course and tournament info and picks you’ll need.
