Giannis, All Star Game, and NBA Odds

First and foremost. I'm not an NBA guy, I just really like the Milwaukee since like 2015. I watch the NBA playoffs because at that point the NBA is the only thing on and I'm not a huge baseball guy.

First and foremost. I’m not an NBA guy, I just really like the Milwaukee since like 2015. I watch the NBA playoffs because at that point the NBA is the only thing on and I’m not a huge baseball guy. Really, the NBA gets entertaining during conference finals, in game 6 if those series make it that far.

However, Giannis is destroying the league this year and will the MVP (don’t fight me on that) and the Bucks are going to the NBA finals, I know my shit.

So first lets talk about Giannis and the All-Star game.  If you haven’t heard the news yet, Giannis was the leading vote getter in the East by the fans, players, and media (tied with Leonard & Embiid).  He was third overall in fan voting behind LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

To take a little fork in the road here, if you’ve kept tabs on the NBA even just a little bit this year you’ve heard the name Luka Doncic.  Dude is a notarized stud. Yes, notarized. He’s made the Mavs relevant, even though they are not in the playoffs currently, and is consistently hitting big shots for them.  He is the next great young player in the league.  Anyway, although he got second overall in fan votes, he got no player or media votes. Fucking outrageous.

Go back to Giannis.  Dudes a stud.  Apparently how the NBA All Star game works now is there is a starting 5 for the East and the West. The leading vote getters, in this game Gianns and LeBron, get to draft the rest of their team from the non-starting All Stars that get announced on January 31st. Here are the Starters below and how the voting shook out.

East Starters

Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)

Kawhi Leonard (Toronto Raptors)

Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers)

Kyrie Irving (Boston Celtics)

Kemba Walker (Charlotte Bobcats)

West Starters

LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Kevin Durant (Golden State Warriors)

Steph Curry (Golden State Warriors)

Paul George (Oklahoma City Thunder)

James Harden (Houston Rockets)

NBA Future Odds

Well we like to make money. Let’s look at some NBA current futures from mybookie.  Remember, I know jack shit about the NBA and I love Giannis.  All picks here are obviously not biased.

Easter Conference Champs

  • Toronto Raptors (+200)
  • Boston Celtics (+300)
  • Milwaukee Bucks (+350)
  • Philadelphia 76ers (+400)

These are the only four teams in the East that have a chance to make the finals.  Obviously the Celtics have arguable the most talented and deep roster, and they’ve been to back to back conference finals.  However, they currently sit as the 5 seed behind every team listed here and the Pacers. Regardless, these are the top four teams and they should be playing each other in the conference semis. I don’t trust the 76ers until they can win a big game against a good team.  You could say the same about the Bucks, but they took the Celtics to 7 games with poor fucking coaching this year and I trust them more. Yes, I like the Bucks at +350 here.  Just put your money on any of the top three and I think you have a legit shot.

Western Conference Champs

  • Golden State Warriors (-300)
  • Houston Rockets (+850)
  • Los Angeles Lakers (+1500)
  • Oklahoma City Thunder (+1400)
  • Denver Nuggets (+1400)

The West is Warriors or bust but were here to make some basic guesses from a guy who doesn’t watch the NBA much.  The Rockets are all James Harden and had a good run last year, Harden will run out of steam again.  The Lakers with LeBron still are not good enough to even touch the Warriors. The value and team I like here is the Thunder.  Westbrook has been to a finals and conference finals.  Paul George has been to the conference finals.  Steven Adams is a quality big man.  Carmelo Anthony is gone.  If I was picking someone other than the Warriors, I’d throw some bones down on the Thunder at +1400.

NBA Champion

  • Golden State Warriors (-200)
  • Toronto Raptors (+850)
  • Boston Celtics (+1000)
  • Houston Rockets (+1400)
  • Milwaukee Bucks (+1500)
  • Philadelphia 76ers (+1700)
  • Oklahoma City Thunder (+2500)

Again all signed point towards the Warriors winning the championship again.  If you were to bet against them, you go with whatever team you think is coming out of the Eastern Conference or you throw a bet down on all four of those teams hoping one pans out in the long run.  Here’s what you do: throw down $200 on the Warriors to win $100.  Then, you take anywhere from $50-$100 and put it down on a combination of those other teams to cover you losses.  You either come out with a big win, or just come out even. But you really should put a lot of money down on the Bucks because they are a fucking WAGON.

MVP Odds

  • James Harden (-500)
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo (+350)
  • LeBron James (+2000)
  • Joel Embiid (+2000)
  • Steph Curry (+2000)
  • Anthony Davis (+2500)
  • Kawhi Leonard (+3000)
  • Kevin Durant (+5000)

Harden is the heavy favorite right now, and deservedly so.  The Rockets have basically nobody playing with him and he’s tearing the league up.  However, I doubt he can keep this pace up and keep Houston as a two or three seed in the West.  If he does, your damn right he’s gonna win the MVP.  I like two other names on list, both you’ll be able to guess. Giannis and LeBron James. Giannis has been the best player in the NBA and the Bucks have the best record in the NBA currently.  If the Bucks finish the season with the best record in the NBA a year after being the 6 seed in the East, you gotta believe he’s going to get a lot of votes.  LeBron is a different story.  The Lakers have fucking sucked since he got injured and they are currently out of the playoffs.  If LeBron comes back and leads the Lakers to a top 2-3 seed in the West, he’s also going to get a lot of buzz for the MVP.  For the value, I’d lay money down on Giannis and LeBron instead of Harden right now.
