CFB Bowl Season Sportsbook: Wednesday 12/26

Not a big Ford Field guy, is this one of the most boring bowl games of the whole season?  Just watching games played at Ford Field puts me to sleep. Along with this match-up.

Servpro First Responder Bowl: Boston College (+2.5) v #25 Boise State (-2.5) O/U 50.5

  • Dallas, TX (Cotton Bowl): 1:30 PM EST on ESPN
  • Boise State gets a second chance this year against a Power 5 team to prove they belong with the big boys. Earlier in the year, Boise got beat handily by Oklahoma St. on the road.
  • Boston College is obviously a much different team than Oklahoma St.  BC is looking to keep this game low scoring while trying to run the ball and play great defense.
  • BC did hold Clemson to only 27 points.
  • Motivation: Boise State may be down here after coming off a conference championship loss at home to Fresno St.
  • Motivation: BC has played in Shreveport, Detroit, and the Bronx twice in the past four years going 1-3. Not really great destinations to play your final game, and now they get to play in a historic stadium against a ranked team.
  • Boston College will also be fully healthy for this game, and are the 28th ranked S&P + Defensive team in the country.
  • The difference here in the offense, Boise St. is much much better on offense and I think BC is a better match-up for this Boise team thank Oklahoma St.’s high scoring offense was.
  • I’d like this game more for BC if this number was bigger, but a -2.5 I will take Boise State to win and for this over to hit. I think this will be a close game played in the 20’s.
    • 58% on Boise St. & 54% on the Over.

Quick Lane Bowl: Minnesota (+6) v. Georgia Tech (-6)O/U 57.5

  • Detroit, MI (Ford Field): 5:15 PM EST on ESPN
  • MotivationPaul Johnson’s final game as the head coach of Georgia Tech.  That is all I need to hear.
  • Georgia Tech is the #1 rush offense in the country, that is facing a weak Minnesota defense against the run.
  • Motivation: Minnesota squeaked into the bowl season and finally got over the hump against Wisconsin so they should be a highly motivated team, just like Georgia Tech.
  • Not a big Ford Field guy, is this one of the most boring bowl games of the whole season?  Just watching games played at Ford Field puts me to sleep. Along with this match-up.
  • I could have given my pick after the first bullet point, GT is coming out to play for Paul Johnson against a sub-par Minnesota. team.  Give me Georgia Tech to win a blowout.
    • 78% on Georgia Tech & 66% on the Over.

Cheez-It Bowl: Cal (-1) v. TCU (+1)O/U 38

  • Phoenix, AZ (Chase Field): 9:00 PM EST on ESPN
  • Man, I really don’t like any of the lines for today’s games and this one my be worst, just a pick’em game here.
  • These are two worst redzone offenses in the country, and two the of best defenses in the country.
  • However, those numbers can be inflated or deflated for both because the Pac 12 is so bad on offense, and the Big 12 is obviously great on offense.
  • Nugget for you all, Gary Patterson has never lost to a Pac 12 team.
  • Nugget #2: Game is being played on a baseball field.
  • What I’ve been hearing and reading most about this game is a low scoring affair because both defenses are so good, and both offenses are pretty poor.  Well, in Cal’s case just not good.
  • Cal ranks 121st S&P+ on offense while TCU ranks 99th.
  • Cal ranks 12th S&P+ on defense while TCU ranks 23rd.
  • What could make the difference in the game? TCU ranks 120th in S&P+ Special Teams, while Cal ranks 20th. Give me Cal scoring a special teams touchdown.
  • Motivation: not sure with team has a lot here.  Cal hasn’t been to a bowl since 2015. TCU on the other hand has been to bowl games with regularity and this games ins’t one of the bigger ones.  Not sure if either team has way more motivation than the other here.
  • This is bowl season and shit happens.  TCU wins in high scoring affair – 24-20.
    • 51% on TCU & 57% on the Over.
